Ambassador of European Union to Canada on official visit to Saskatchewan

Dr. Melita Gabrič, Ambassador of the European Union to Canada, begins a three-day official visit to Saskatchewan today, with stops in Regina and Saskatoon, as part of ongoing outreach efforts to strengthen cooperation with the Canadian provinces and territories.

During the visit, Ambassador Gabrič will meet with Saskatchewan Premier, the Hon. Scott Moe, as well as provincial cabinet ministers covering a wide range of portfolios, including trade and export development, environment, energy and resources, agriculture and advanced education.

“Our economies rely more than ever on international trade with reliable partners. Our goal is to continue to make the most of our trade deal, the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement, and enhance our collaboration in such strategic areas as rare earths, energy and climate action,” said Ambassador Gabrič.

Highlights of the visit also include meetings with Regina Mayor Sandra Masters and business leaders. Ambassador Gabrič will also hold a roundtable discussion with students and academics at University of Saskatchewan.

This is Ambassador Gabrič’s first official visit to Saskatchewan since she began her mandate as the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Canada in February 2021.

The visit follows recent outreach trips to Canada’s western provinces at a time when the European Union seeks to diversify its sources of energy and critical minerals and to step up the green and digital transitions.
