EU–Canada Digital Partnership Council
On December 7th, the EU and Canada held the first meeting of the EU–Canada Digital Partnership Council, co-chaired by Executive Vice-President (EVP) for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, Henna Virkkunen, and Canada's Minister for AI and Digital Innovation, Evan Solomon.
Both sides reaffirmed the importance of the partnership, anchored in the New EU-Canada Strategic Partnership of the Future. The meeting led to concrete deliverables to advance cooperation in AI Factories, supercomputers, quantum, connectivity and digital identities.
EVP Virkkunen and Minister Solomon signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on AI and a Memorandum of Cooperation on Digital Credentials aiming to facilitate the online exchanges between businesses and citizens of both sides of the Atlantic.
The EU and Canada underlined that the Digital Partnership strengthens innovation and research, supports fair and predictable digital economies, and reinforces sovereign technological capabilities for both the EU and Canada.
