European Parliament President Roberta Metsola visited Ottawa on September 5–6 for the G7 Parliamentary Speakers' Summit.

During this meeting, she participated in working sessions to discuss online threats to democracy, legislating in a polarized world, and protecting legislators from violence.

The G7 Speakers' Meeting was also an opportunity for the President to hold bilateral meetings with her G7 counterparts. She notably met with Canadian Speaker of the House of Commons Francis Scarpaleggia. An occasion to highlight the ever-growing partnership between the EU and Canada and our close cooperation on trade & security, and in protecting democracy across the globe.
