Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.We offerWe offer a post of Policy Officer in the Trade and Economic Section. Under the supervision of the Head of the Trade and Economic Section, the jobholder will contribute to the fulfilment of the mandate of the Delegation as regards monitoring, analysing and reporting on Canadian economic, trade and environment/climate policies. He/she will monitor the implementation of the EU-Canada Comprehensive Trade and Economic Agreement (CETA), engage with Canadian stakeholders and government authorities to ensure its effective implementation, develop a solid understanding of Canada’s positions on economic, trade and environment/climate issues, advise and assist the Head of Section and the Head of Delegation in providing timely recommendations to Headquarters in Brussels regarding the EU's environment/climate, trade and economic relations with Canada, and promote EU-Canada cooperation on environment/climate, trade or economic issues.This position is to work on-site. Staff are presently working both on-site and remotely but will return to on-site work as soon as the COVID-19 situation allows.Working hours: 37,5 hours/week Monday-FridayPlace of employment: EU Delegation, 1900-150 Metcalfe Street, Ottawa, ON, K2P 1P1Group: Policy Officer (group 1 in the EU system)Minimum basic salary before taking into account relevant prior experience: 6.536 CAD/month (gross)We offer a competitive position in an international environment. Selection CriteriaMinimum Requirements:1. Medically fit to perform the required duties i.e. passes the medical tests;2. Enjoys civil rights and permits for employment under local law i.e. Canadian citizen or Canadian permanent resident;3. Has excellent knowledge of English and French;4. Has a University level degree, preferably in Economics, International Trade, Law or Political Science;5. Has a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience, related to environment/climate, economics, trade or political science.The following will be considered an asset:1. Specific experience or proven knowledge related to EU-Canadian environment/climate, trade or economic relations;2. Previous experience in a federal or in a provincial administration, on Parliament Hill, or in an international organisation or diplomatic mission;3. Proven knowledge of the EU, its institutions, and its functioning;4. Personal skills:a. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and a strong capacity to analyse, structure and communicate technical or specialised information; good drafting skills;b. Capacity to establish and develop contacts with a diversity of interlocutors, in particular in governments or on Parliament Hill;c. Ability to work in a team, combined with the ability to work in a proactive and autonomous way, with a strong sense for priorities;d. High sense of responsibility, rigor, reliability and confidentiality.

The procedureAfter the deadline for applications, the applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee set up for this purpose. The Selection Committee will prepare a short list of candidates who are considered to be the most suitable for the post on the basis of a preliminary assessment of the information provided in their application letter and the supporting documents. The short-listed candidates will be invited to an assessment phase which may include an interview if necessary – during this phase, the Selection Committee will assess the suitability of the candidates for the post.The candidates who have not been short-listed will not be contacted individually; however, the Delegation will use the same means of publication as for this Vacancy Notice to inform the remaining candidates once the recruitment procedure has been completed and that a candidate has (or has not) been recruited.
