Peace, order and good governance in Mali: transatlantic perspectives - webinar 12 November

In a world of interdependence and open borders, purely “regional” instability no longer exists.  

Canada learned this once again when a plane was shot down thousands of kilometres from its territory in Iranian skies. France and the European Union experience every day, at their borders and on their territory, the devastation caused by wars, poverty and trafficking in Africa.  

The Sahel region in particular is now in the grip of a security, social and humanitarian crisis, one of the fastest deteriorating in the world. Nearly 13.4 million people in the region are already in need of humanitarian assistance. By 2030, 9 out of 10 people living in extreme poverty worldwide will live in sub-Saharan Africa, according to the latest World Bank projections. It is necessary and urgent to act.  

Our panel will provide an update on the current political and operational situation in Mali, provide a critical and realistic view of the actions taken by Canada, France and the European Union in recent years, and propose guidelines for future transatlantic engagement that will be both positive and effective for the people of Mali.
