Record turnout for the 6th annual European Day of Languages at the Glebe Collegiate Institute

More than 700 language enthusiasts turned up for the 6th annual European Day of Languages at the Glebe Collegiate Institute in Ottawa. The event was organized by the European Union Delegation to Canada, EU Member States Embassies and the Ottawa Chapter of the European National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC), in partnership with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) and the International Languages Educators' Association (ILEA) of Ontario.

The event, which has become a fall tradition of celebrating the importance of language-learning and multilingualism, featured info booths and mini-language classes in 13 different European languages.

The Council of Europe created the European Day of Languages in 2001 – celebrated every year on 26 September, in recognition of the importance of multilingualism. Hundreds of language and cultural institutes, associations, universities and, in particular, schools take part is this celebration worldwide.
