EU and China launch 3rd phase of EU-China Dialogue on Migration and Mobility Support Project

On 29 February, in Beijing, the Delegation of the European Union to China and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China co-hosted the launch ceremony of the third phase of the EU-China Dialogue on Migration and Mobility Support Project. Relevant Chinese authorities, EU Member States representatives and the Directorate General for Migration and Home Affairs of the European Commission attended the event.

All parties engaged in this support project reiterated their commitment to strengthen the dialogue on legal and irregular migratory flows between the EU and China and to fight irregular migration, smuggling of migrants and trafficking in human beings.

EU Ambassador to China Jorge Toledo stressed that the European Union is looking forward to maintaining and deepening exchanges with China in order to improve knowledge and cooperation on key topics of mutual interest.

Mr. Jiang Yingfeng, , Deputy Director General of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences, Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs,  concluded that given the project’s past success, Phase III will enable the parties to continue to share experiences and practices on migration, as well as to contribute to world peace and development by improving migration governance overall.

IOM Programme Manager Mr. Andrei Zaitsev emphasized the opportunity offered by the new phase to capitalize on past achievements and further enhance migration and mobility between the two sides by addressing their practical needs, before presenting a summary of MMSP III and its work plan.

The project will continue working to maximise the development impact of migration and mobility through regional and international migration mechanisms, addressing migration as a global phenomenon.
