EU-China Dialogue on Competition takes place in Beijing

The EU-China Dialogue on Competition and State Aid Control took place in Beijing on 18 March, co-hosted by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition (DG Competition) of and China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR). Both sides expressed appreciation for the longstanding cooperation and updated each other on developments in State aid and competition policy, including in the digital field. This dialogue serves as a crucial platform for advancing cooperation between the European Union and China in the realm of competition policy.

DG Competition emphasised the importance of transparency and predictability of competition enforcement and transparency in subsidies. Recognizing the shared responsibility as leading review authorities for global mergers, DG Competition also referred to the importance of streamlining procedures, coordinating review timing, and enhancing competition enforcement standards. The two sides agreed to enhance case-specific cooperation.

The next EU-China Dialogue on Competition and State Aid Control will take place in Brussels in 2025.
