EU Delegation to China hosts the 3rd EU-China Technical Seminar on aid management: Aid statistics and transparency

The latest EU-China Technical Seminar on aid management took place in Beijing on 25th March and focused on aid statistics and transparency, including principles of data collection and coordination between stakeholders, transparency and the development of data products. Experts from the EU (DG INTPA) as well as from Sweden (Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, SIDA) and Finland (Department for Development Policy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs) shared their experiences. Chinese speakers include officials from CIDCA as well as the think tanks Center for International Knowledge on Development (CIKD) and the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation (CAITEC).

The EU is the largest provider of official development assistance (ODA) in the world, and is the source of almost half of global aid.  China is also becoming an increasingly important provider of development finance, through both grants and lending. For instance, China has now become the world’s largest lender to developing countries. With the official establishment in 2018 of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), China is developing and reforming its systems for aid management and development cooperation. For this reason, the EU and its Member States engage in regular and constructive exchanges with China on issues related to international development cooperation.  “Team Europe” has been working with CIDCA in a series of technical seminars aimied at exchanging best practice in aid implementation on a range of topics including monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
