New EU IP Project in China holds stakeholder engagement forum in Beijing

Following the inaugural event held in Brussels on 10 March 2026, the European Union presented the new EU-funded project ‘Intellectual Property Protection and Enforcement in China: A Key to Sustainable Competitiveness of the EU’. Implemented and co-funded by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the new project celebrated the first stakeholder engagement forum in Beijing, China on 25 June 2026.

The event brought together representatives from Chinese IP authorities, EU institutions, European industry, and academia, to strengthen dialogue, identify priorities, and foster a more predictable IP environment for businesses operating in China.

A new phase for EU-China IP engagement

The forum built on the legacy of the now closed IP Key China project. While ensuring continuity, the event actively addressed emerging challenges such as AI-driven innovation, digital enforcement, and green technology.

The event served as a platform to:

  • present the EU IP Project in China, ensuring continuity with past initiatives while tackling cross-border disputes, enforcement inconsistencies, and market access barriers;

  • gather strategic inputs from stakeholders to shape the project’s priorities, with a focus on IP enforcement, innovation, legal certainty and a fair and efficient IP system;

  • strengthen institutional trust, demonstrating the EU’s long-term commitment to collaborative IP governance.

Participants discussed relevant topics for the new project, including:

  • Transparency and legal certainty in IP rules and enforcement;

  • Digital IP practices, including AI and data-driven technologies;

  • Support for EU small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) navigating China’s complex IP landscape.

The insights gained during this forum will directly inform targeted, customer-oriented activities under the new project framework.
