Study “International practices in employment injury insurance for workers in digital platform employment”
On 21 January, the EU-funded project “Improving China’s institutional capacity towards universal social protection”, implemented by the International Labour Organisation and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security (MOHRSS), has launched the study “International practices in employment injury insurance for workers in digital platform employment”. The project aims to promote cooperation between the EU and China in the area of employment, social affairs and inclusion in a context of common challenges, such as demographic changes, migration and evolving employment patterns.
Given the significant changes in labour conditions brought by the digitalisation of economy, the study builds on the experiences of countries that have adopted employment injury insurance systems for digital platform workers and further points to how these principles can be adapted to enable protection of platform workers in country specific context. The study involved the cooperation of researchers, policy makers and stakeholders from the International Labour Organisation; the Social Security Organisation in Malaysia; The Committee of Standards, Equity, Occupational health and Safety in Canada; The Ministry of Health and Social Affairs in Sweden; the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy in Spain; The Social Insurance Agency in Sweden; as well the Chinese Academy of labour and Social Security and the PRC Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.
