European Union – IGAD Coordination Meeting
The meeting brought together IGAD senior leadership, technical directorates, and EU representatives for a strategic discussion over EU – IGAD collaboration in the Horn of Africa and Red Sea region. The agenda of the discussions reaffirmed both parties commitment to a strong partnership anchored in shared priorities of:

regional peace and security situation in the Red Sea,

climate resilience and impact on population mobility and displacement in the region,

economic integration and regional food security.
During the meeting, IGAD presented its emerging Strategy 2026-2030, based on evaluation of the previous regional action and strong collaboration with member states emphasizing the need to move from fragmented project-based interventions toward more integrated approaches that deliver measurable and sustainable impact in the region.
IGAD expressed appreciation for the EU’s continued support across multiple sectors and highlighted its key institutional transformation priorities under the new IGAD Treaty.
The EU welcomed these reform efforts and expressed the need to have a structured engagement with Member States and Development partners.
The meeting also reviewed the current EU–IGAD cooperation portfolio, which englobe the EU support to regional migration governance, cross-border natural resource management, regional stabilization. Both sides acknowledged the positive outcomes achieved and the importance of maintaining strong coordination across regional priorities.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepen the EU-IGAD partnership, enhance partners coordination, and deliver impactful solutions to the region’s most pressing challenges.
