The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.
The EU Delegation to Ecuador ensures the representation of the European Union to the Republic of Ecuador; monitors the bilateral relations in the field of political, economic and commercial cooperation; and promotes the values and interests of the EU abroad.
We offer
We offer a temporary contract to cover the post of Secretary within the Trade Section of the EU Delegation to Ecuador. Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation. The successful candidate will occupy a specific job function as Secretary – this job function may be changed in accordance with the needs of the Delegation. Under this job function the successful candidate will serve as technical and support staff to the Trade Section, such as managing calendar, sending reports and documents, organising meetings, filing and archiving, typing outgoing correspondence and ensuring its delivery, etc. under the supervision and responsibility of the relevant head of section; as well as be the back-up for the other secretaries of the Delegation (Head of Delegation, Political Section, Trade Section) in their absence according to the needs.
The place of employment is: Av. 6 de Diciembre y Boussingaul, Edificio Torre 6, piso 10, Quito – Ecuador.
The type of contract to be signed will be a temporary contract under local Ecuadorian law, for a period of 20 weeks. The gross monthly salary offered is 2004 USD.
Selection Criteria
Minimum Requirements:

Enjoys civil rights and permits for employment under local law;
-
An excellent written and oral communication skills in Spanish and English. A perfect command of Spanish (C2) and a satisfactory knowledge of English (C1) are required;

Minimum 3 years of professional experience as Secretary preferably for an international organisation or a private company;

Secondary education and/or University degree in a field related to the position;
The following will be considered an asset:

Previous experience in a multicultural and multilingual environment;

Intermediary level of French language (B1-B2)

Knowledge of IT Tools: Microsoft Office; Social Media.

The procedure
After the deadline for applications, the applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee set up for this purpose. The Selection Committee will prepare a short-list of candidates who are considered to be the most suitable for the post on the basis of a preliminary assessment of the information provided in their application letter and the supporting documents. The short-listed candidates will be invited to an assessment phase which may include an interview if necessary – during this phase, the Selection Committee will assess the suitability of the candidates for the post.
The candidates who have not been short-listed will not be contacted individually; however, the Delegation will use the same means of publication as for this Vacancy Notice to inform the remaining candidates once the recruitment procedure has been completed and that a candidate has (or has not) been recruited.
