1st Africa–EU Parliamentary Assembly conclude historic meetings in Eswatini, advancing a new era of Parliamentary diplomacy and OACPS Africa–EU cooperation

From 12 to 14 May 2026, Members of the European Parliament and parliamentarians rom OACPS African countries who are signatories of the Samoa Agreement convened in Eswatini, for the first Plenary Session of the Africa–EU Parliamentary Assembly.

The Assembly provided a historic platform for equal partnership and dialogue, as participants debated key priorities and adopted a joint political recommendation to be addressed to the Africa-EU Council of Ministers, shaping the future direction of implementation of the Samoa Agreement and strengthening the joint partnership between Africa and Europe.

For three days, 135 European and African parliamentarians gathered around the same table, together with representatives of regional organisations, international institutions and civil society. This high-level participation reflected a shared political commitment to deepen cooperation and address the pressing challenges facing both continents.
