EU AMBASSADOR TO ESWATINI PRESENTS HIS CREDENTIALS

European Union (EU) Ambassador to Eswatini, Karsten Mecklenburg, has on 10 April 2025 presented to His Majesty King Mswati III his letters of credence accrediting him to the Kingdom of Eswatini.

During this event held at Lozitha palace, Ambassador Mecklenburg said during his term in Eswatini he shall endeavor to ensure that the people of Eswatini and those of the European Union continue to benefit from the EU-Eswatini partnership, which has existed for over 50 years now.

He said over this period, the EU has significantly contributed to Eswatini’s development aspirations and objectives.

“Our investments in free primary education, infrastructure development, agriculture, social protection, green energy, human rights and civil society, business and private sector development, emergency food security assistance and livelihoods for the most vulnerable emaSwati are testaments to our unwavering commitment to Eswatini’s prosperity and growth,” said the Ambassador.

“We have also supported community-based groups, which are the key drivers of social change, intending to strengthen their socio-economic capacities in both rural and urban centres,” he added.

Looking ahead, the Ambassador said the EU’s Multi-annual Indicative Programme currently being implemented and worth SZL 540 million, aims to invest in human capital development and social inclusion, particularly for the youth.

In response, His Majesty appreciated the long-standing partnership between Eswatini and EU, saying the EU’s contribution in the Kingdom’s development has greatly assisted in transforming the lives of emaSwati, particularly in the rural areas.

The King said he has received feedback from many emaSwati who have expressed how their lives have improved for the better as a result of the EU’s support.

His Majesty hoped this support will continue and said the government stands ready to support the new Ambassador as he carries out his duties during his term in Eswatini.
