Breaking Barriers: Empowering Women in Ethiopian Politics

The project "Enhancing the Participation of Women in Ethiopian Politics: Balancing the Scales" aims to address gender disparities by empowering women leaders and fostering an environment conducive to equitable political participation.

This EU-funded initiative, implemented by the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD) and the Coalition of Ethiopian Civil Society Organizations for Elections (CECOE), seeks to strengthen women's role in decision-making processes.

Objectives

  • Empower women leaders to participate in politics meaningfully through targeted capacity-building initiatives.

  • Create an environment that supports women’s active and equal participation in Ethiopian politics.

  • Engagement with Political Parties and Policymakers

Expected Results:

  • Enhanced leadership skills and political knowledge among at least 320 women leaders.

  • Increased public awareness about gender equality in political participation.

  • Strengthened networks and support systems for women alumni of political training initiatives.

  • Implementation of gender-sensitive strategies by Ethiopian political parties.
