MD Africa Patricia LLOMBART CUSSAC bilateral engagements with the Government of Ethiopia

MD Africa Llombart Cussac’s first visit to Ethiopia was highly successful, marked by high-level meetings with Ethiopian counterparts. The EU has a strong appreciation for its relation with Ethiopia. We are keen to explore further significant investments, notably under the Global Gateway initiative, with a full Team Europe approach. The visit reinforced the positive and strategic EU–Ethiopia partnership, emphasizing mutual respect, open dialogue, and the EU’s commitment to supporting Ethiopia’s development, regional integration, and efforts to create inclusive and sustainable growth.

Discussions with the State Foreign Minister, Foreign Minister, and Ethiopian Investment Commission highlighted our mutual commitment to continued dialogue, strengthened cooperation on bilateral, regional and international issues, as well as private-sector development. The EU reaffirmed its interest to deepen relations with the EU, strengthening Global Gateway cooperation, and collaborating closely toward COP32 in Addis Ababa in 2027. The discussions also touched on regional stability, investment, and sustainable development. The EU will continue to provide support and expertise in advancing Ethiopia’s economic reforms and mobilising opportunities for trade and investment.

At the Arda Talk event  at the Institute of Foreign Affairs, MD Llombart Cussac addressed EU–Africa relations, the Horn of Africa, and EU–Ethiopia partnership. She emphasized the importance of dialogue, sustainable solutions, and the unique EU–AU partnership, reinforcing the EU’s commitment to African integration and regional stability.

MD Africa also engaged with women members of the Youth Sounding Board who shared their views on the way to gender equality.
