Transforming Ethiopia's Horticultural Sector: New Project Launched to Boost Economic Growth and Sustainability
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia — 29/10/2025 — Today marks the launch of a transformative initiative aimed at enhancing Ethiopia’s horticultural sector, with the goal of boosting economic growth, improving food security, ensuring food safety, and promoting sustainable development within the nation. This innovative programme called MAHEBER, and implemented by COLEAD, is set to empower local horticultural stakeholders to adapt to evolving market requirements at local, regional, and international levels.
MAHEBER, funded by the European Union, seeks to improve the competitiveness, resilience, inclusiveness, and sustainability of Ethiopia's horticultural value chains. By focusing on strategic objectives such as enhancing sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) and environmental practices, the project aims to reduce non-conformities in the EU market, thereby opening-up greater export opportunities.
