16. Our Future is Now- Waste Management in Samoa

Samoa faces many challenges when it comes to recycling and waste management, conservation and is a country that forefronts the effects of climate change, The projects is supporting community mitigation, adaptation and resilience and improve awareness of impact of plastic pollution in Samoa. One of the objectives is a holistic approach to conserve Apia waterways and increased use of biodegradable packaging in local markets and Women owned SME’s.

This project aims at supporting community to improve awareness of impact of plastic pollution in Samoa by decreasing the use of single-use plastic going into the landfill in Samoa. It aims also aims at implementation of sustainable waste management mechanism and approach in urban and rural communities with an increase of community utilisation of public recyclable drop off stations, Influence and Enforce policy on reducing single-use plastic being sold at schools in both urban and rural areas through workshops and awareness campaigns.
