Climate Resilient Sheltering Schools

The CRSS initiative is a €10 million EU-funded action with €1 million co-financing from UNICEF, designed to strengthen school infrastructure and disaster preparedness in Vanuatu. Implemented over four years, the project transforms schools into safe, inclusive, climate-resilient learning spaces that double as emergency shelters. It enhances absorptive capacity by ensuring schools are operational from day zero after a disaster, builds adaptive capacity through climate education and preparedness training, and fosters transformative capacity by empowering communities to lead resilience efforts. School sites are selected in coordination with the Vanuatu Ministry of Education, ensuring alignment with national priorities.
