Are you an EU citizen in Nauru?

Learn more about your right to consular support and how you can benefit from it in Nauru

As an EU citizen, you can contact your EU Member State's resident Embassy/Consulate/Honorary Consul to provide consular protection.

If your EU Member State has no resident Embassy/Consulate or Honorary Consul able to provide consular support in Nauru, you can turn to another EU Member State for consular support.

Notably, any EU citizen abroad whose own Member State has no local representation is entitled to receive consular protection from the diplomatic or consular authorities of any other EU Member State. In such a case, affected EU citizens are entitled to benefit from consular support under the same conditions as the nationals of the EU Member State they turn to for assistance.

The majority of EU Member States have non-resident representations to the Pacific island countries from Embassies and Missions around the region (for example in Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Japan and others). You can see more details below.

Please note that the EU Delegation for the Pacific cannot provide direct consular assistance.

As an EU citizen, you can take simple steps to make consular protection more effective, for example:

  • Following the travel advice issued by your country’s Foreign Ministry
  • When abroad, registering with your EU Member State’s Embassy or Consulate and/or through dedicated platforms, if applicable
  • Other tips include keeping an electronic copy of your travel documents, subscribing to a travel insurance or saving crisis contact details.
