EU and Palau Deepen Partnership

During her visit, Ambassador Plinkert held a high-level meeting with the President of Palau, H.E. Surangel S. Whipps, Jr., reaffirming the EU’s support for Palau’s development priorities and climate resilience efforts. The discussion focused on ongoing collaboration between the EU and Palau in the multilateral context in areas such as climate action and ocean governance, and bilaterally on sustainable development, as well as trade and business relations.

Ambassador Plinkert also met with key members of Palau’s Cabinet, including the Minister of State, Hon. Gustav Aitaro; the Minister of Public Infrastructure and Industries, Hon. Charles Obichang; and the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment, Hon. Steven Victor. These engagements highlighted the EU’s cooperation with Palau in marine biodiversity, disaster management, and environmental protection as well as EU-Palau collaboration in international fora.
As part of her visit, the Ambassador toured EU-funded projects that are advancing community development and climate adaptation in Palau, namely the regional Kiwa Initiative and Pacific BioScapes programmes. These projects, implemented by key local partners, are making a tangible impact on the ground. She also engaged with members of the diplomatic corps, reinforcing the EU’s role as a reliable partner in multilateral dialogue and Pacific regionalism.
“Palau is a key partner for the EU in advancing our common priorities, including marine biodiversity protection and climate resilience. Our shared commitment to sustainable development, ocean stewardship, and inclusive growth continues to guide our cooperation.” said Ambassador Plinkert.
The visit reflects the EU’s broader engagement across the Pacific, supporting resilient communities and amplifying Pacific voices on the global stage.
