Europe Day 2026 in Suva — Celebrating Unity and Enduring Partnerships
Celebrating 76 years since the Schuman Declaration, the event reflected on the European Union’s journey from a visionary peace project to a global political, economic, and development partner, committed to building international partnerships in the spirit of trust and shared purpose.

Addressing today’s complex geopolitical landscape, Her Excellency Barbara Plinkert, Ambassador of the European Union to the Pacific, reaffirmed the European Union’s unwavering commitment to peace, stability, and a rules‑based international order. Referencing Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the Middle East crisis, she expressed appreciation for the steadfast support of Pacific partners in multilateral fora in upholding these shared principles.

The reception also celebrated the depth and strength of EU-Pacific ties – a partnership built on fairness, mutual respect, and shared ambition. Ambassador Plinkert underscored that, in a period of global uncertainty, Europe remains a reliable and trusted partner for the Pacific, with a partnership that is strategic in vision and concrete in action.
“Together, we have achieved milestones on issues that matter most to Europe and the Pacific, such as climate change and ocean governance,” said Plinkert.

Guests enjoyed a rich cultural programme, featuring European culinary specialities, a virtual journey across Europe, and an exhibition of drawings portraying Suva and Fiji. The evening was further enlivened by music performances from the Fiji Police Band.
