FSM Sustainable Energy and Accompanying Measures (SEAM), Increasing the Participation of Women and CSOs in the Energy Sector

The European Union under the European Development Fund 11, (EDF-11) Federated States of Micronesia Sustainable Energy and Accompanying Measures (SEAM) program supports the FSM population to utilize affordable, reliable, and environmentally sound energy services and benefit from transparent and efficient management of public funds.

The Civil Society Organisations Support Programme of the SEAM program is implemented by Micronesian Conservation Trust in cooperation with College of Micronesia-FSM and Chuuk Public Utility Corporation CPUC).

The main aim of the project is to increase participation of women and Civil Society Organisations (CSO) in the energy sector while enabling FSM citizens to utilize affordable reliable and environmentally sound energy.

The Project aims to achieve the following main objectives:

1. Increase the participation of CSOs in the energy sector with CSOs jointly delivering energy sector developments with the government.

2. Increase access to renewable electricity for remote island communities, providing improved economic and sustainable opportunities.

3- Increase empowerment and capacity of women from remote island communities through training in solar engineering and livelihood skills, leading to increased participation and representation of women in community based actions and decision-making.

The empowerment and capacity building of women will be achieved through the trainings delivered by the College of Micronesia-FSM and Chuuk Public Utility Corporation CPUC), Specifically, COM-FSM and CPUC will train the local women and recommend the most appropriate standalone solar systems for the households.
