The European Union Delegation to The Gambia is looking for: Secretary
The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.
The EU Delegation to The Gambia is the official Embassy of the European Union accredited to The Gambia, and is headed by a resident Ambassador. It is at this moment comprised of around 25 staff, including some 15 expatriates, and is located in Fajara. The activities related to Finance, Contract and Audit (FCA) of the Delegation are managed by two Programme/Project accountants in The Gambia, one project account and a deputy Head of Section under the supervision of the Head of Finance, contract and Audit Section based in Senegal. This Section is assisted by one Secretary/assistant, for which the present post is published. The post holder will work very closely with the Secretary/assistant of Development Cooperation (OPE) section, and both of them will have to back up and substitute each other. In case of absence, the post holder may also have to substitute for the Assistant to the Head of Delegation.
We offer a post of Secretary (Local Agent Function Group 3). Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation. Upon recruitment, the successful candidate will occupy a specific job function as Secretary – this job function may be changed in accordance with the needs of the Delegation. Under this job function the successful candidate will serve as technical and support staff to program accountants under the supervision and responsibility of the Head of Finance, Contract and Audit section.
The working hours are 37h30/week, from Monday to Friday. The salary ranges from 28,545.00 GMD to 58,433.00 GMD per month, depending on well documented previous professional experience related to the post and time in the service.

- Medically fit to perform the required duties;
- Enjoys civil rights and permits for employment under local law;
- Has a perfect fluency in English, including orthography and grammar
- The applicant should have a secondary level education (GCE), as a minimum, complemented by higher secretarial diploma (at least 18 months training duration). Minimum 3 years as Secretary in an international organisation can be considered in place of Secretarial Diploma;
- The applicant should have at least 3 years of secretarial experience.
- The applicant should master Microsoft Office, word, excel, powerpoint, internet browsing.
The following will be considered an asset:
- Familiarity with development assistance and accountancy is an asset;
- Previous experience with a development agency or a Diplomatic Representation is an asset;
- Good knowledge of international development cooperation issues (specific experience with EU development projects) is an asset

Closing date to receive applications is December 13th, 2021 by 12:00 a.m. (Gambia time).
After the deadline for applications, the applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee set up for this purpose. The Selection Committee will prepare a short-list of candidates who are considered to be the most suitable for the post on the basis of a preliminary assessment of the information provided in their application letter and the supporting documents. The short-listed candidates will be invited to an assessment phase which may include an interview if necessary – during this phase, the Selection Committee will assess the suitability of the candidates for the post. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted and applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
