EU Ambassador to Ghana Irchad Razaaly, Pays courtesy call on Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene and visits GrEEn Projects in Ashanti Region

The Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Ghana, H.E. Ambassador Irchad Ramiandrasoa Razaaly, has concluded a three-day working visit to the Ashanti Region from Monday, October 25 to Wednesday, October 28.

The visit was to enable him to familiarise himself with the operations of the Boosting Green Employment and Enterprise Opportunities in Ghana (GrEEn) project which is jointly being implemented by the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and SNV Netherlands Development Organisation in the region.

Mr. Razaaly was accompanied by a high-level delegation. They include a Deputy Ambassador of Norway to Ghana Kyrre Holm, Head of Cooperation at the European Union Delegation to Ghana, Massimo Mina, Anna Lixi and Head of Governance and Civil Society Section at the European Union Delegation. The others were a Programme Officer at the European Union Delegation to Ghana, Emmanuel Soubiran and the Country Director of SNV Netherlands Development Organisation, Anjo van Toorn.

During the visit, Mr Razaaly met the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah, to discuss the progress of the GrEEn project, results achieved so far and to strengthen the existing relationship between the project and its implementing Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the region. The Ambassador also pay a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Mr Razaaly also visited the premises of selected partners of the GrEEn Project, including business incubation hubs under GrEEn’s Incubation and Acceleration Programmes to engage with businesses and green entrepreneurs who are receiving training and business advisory support as well as training partners and service recipients of SNV’s Opportunities for Youth Employment (OYE) Programme

Additionally, the EU Ambassador and delegation engaged with service recipients of UNCDF’s Cash for Work (CfW) programming and financial service providers working with the GrEEn Project to provide access to finance to beneficiaries of the GrEEn Project as well as Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) in the Ashanti Region.

He engaged with the Archipelago Project, another EU-funded project and toured the campus of the Kwadaso Agricultural College where the project is currently implementing some of its activities in the region.

The Boosting Green Employment and Enterprise Opportunities in Ghana (GrEEn) project is a four-year action from the European Union, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ghana, SNV Netherlands Development Organisation and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF). The project aims at creating greater economic and employment opportunities for youth, women and returning migrants by promoting and supporting sustainable, green businesses in two selected regions in Ghana: Ashanti and Western.

The GrEEn Project is implemented under the European Union Emergency Trust Fund (EUTF) for Africa with a funding of EUR 20,000,000 from the EU and co-funding of EUR 600,000 from SNV and UNCDF.
