The European Union Delegation to Ghana, in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, has donated, Friday, 8th May, Washing stations, Veronica buckets and reusable face masks to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), some polyclinics in Accra, and to some local markets. These form part of several actions that the EU is undertaking to support, together with EU Members States and implementing partners, the fight against COVID 19 in Ghana, in the coming months.

The donation consists of community washing stations, Veronica buckets and face masks to local communities. It is a small action that will have a great impact among local communities. It will be accompanied by a communication campaign, conducted by NGO Plastic Punch, on how to use and wash properly reusable masks, according to the Ghanaian Government recommendations.

The first places where the donation took place was the Accra Metropolitan Assembly City Hall, Mamprobi Polyclinic, Kaneshie Polyclinic and Ussher Polyclinic.

The response of the EU in Ghana is not only donation of materials and awareness campaigns. The EU has been working closely with implementing partners and beneficiaries of European funds all over the country to direct some of the activities of the different programmes to the fight against the pandemic and to support the most vulnerable communities.

Furthermore, the EU is working with the Government of Ghana on a budget support operation to support the government response to the pandemic. The operation will take the form of a direct grant and will be finalised in the coming weeks.

Overall, the EU and its Member States - #Team Europe - have mobilised more than Euro 100 million to support Ghana’s response to COVID19.
