European Union in Ghana supports “This is Ghana Expo”, to provide a platform for SMEs to showcase "Made in Ghana" products

“Ghana strikes me as a centre for creative and innovative business ventures – whose potential to promote economic growth and sustainable development should not be underestimated. By supporting ‘This is Ghana’, we hope to provide a platform for a wide range of Ghanaian businesses to showcase and promote their unique local products. EU firmly believes that initiatives like this are essential to supporting brilliant entrepreneurs, promoting unique local business initiatives, and boosting the country’s potential for further economic growth,” said EU Ambassador to Ghana, H. E. Irchad Razaaly.
The EU’s support for “This is Ghana” aligns with its priority to boost green growth and job creation, part of the EU-Ghana Joint Programming for 2021-27. In particular, EU is supporting Ghanaian SMEs to expand and grow their businesses in a sustainable way. These objectives fully align with the Global Gateway strategy, which aims to narrow the global investment gap and increase competitiveness of global supply chains.
EU-funded projects present at “This is Ghana” included:
The €20.6M Boosting Employment and Enterprise Opportunities in Ghana (GrEEn) project, which supports sustainable green businesses in the Ashanti and Western regions. Through the programme, EU has already supported about 1 500 entrepreneurs and start-ups to accelerate their business.
The €6.2M West Africa Competitiveness Programme (WACOMP), a partnership initiative between ECOWAS and the EU. The programme seeks to improve the competitiveness of Ghanaian exports with a focus on three main value chains: cassava, fruits, cosmetics and personal care products.
The €2M ReDIAL project, part of EU initiative on Development-Smart Innovation through Research in Agriculture. ReDIAL is working with two indigenous Ghanaian start-up companies, SAYeTECH Company and SESI Technology, who are supporting smallholder farmers with innovative agriculture technologies.
The €2.2M Northern Ghana Integrated Development Project to strengthen the capacity of local civil society organisations to become drivers of innovation in climate-resilient and sustainable agriculture.
