Forty-three (43) Ghanaian Students Receive Scholarships from the European Union Erasmus+ Programme 2022 for Master degree in Europe
The 43 Ghanaian students went through a very competitive section and they are receiving a scholarship to study in at least two top grade European universities established in two different countries. At the end of the programme, they will receive a competitive master’s degree.
By supporting these jointly recognised Master degrees, the EU aims at fostering quality enhancements, innovation, excellence and internationalisation in higher education institutions.
The EU Delegation to Ghana on Thursday, 23 August, organised a pre-departure information session for the Ghanaian beneficiaries to offer them the opportunity to connect and provide relevant orientations, advice and precious tips to fully benefit from their stay in Europe. This was possible thanks to the participation of the ERASMUS Mundus Students Alumni Association and the President of the Ghana branch of the African Student and Alumni Forum (ASAF).
At the event, the European Union Ambassador, H. E. Irchad Razaaly, addressed the participants with encouraging words: “Studying in a multicultural environment will be a life-changing experience that will open your mind and enrich your lives. I am honoured to stand in front of young excellences of this country”.
Also present were representatives of the Ministry of Sport and Youth.
Education is key for peace, tolerance and sustainable growth. The European Union in Ghana is increasing investment in quality education and work closely with national institutions to facilitate mobility and transform education systems.
New partnerships in education are under preparation and EU investment in this sector will increase substantially in the coming years.
Background:
Increasing number of Ghanaians have been studying in Europe under different EU scholarship schemes over the past decade. Between 2004 and 2021, about 1.200 students and staff from Ghana moved to Europe for short-term mobility, about 450 students benefitted from scholarships for joint master-degrees. Apart from scholarships, the Erasmus+ programme offers different opportunities for people of all ages, helping them develop and share knowledge and experiences at institutions and organizations across all the countries that make up the European Union.

Another key EU Programme in Research and Innovation is Horizon Europe that includes the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA). MSCA are the EU’s flagship funding programme for doctoral education and postdoctoral training of researchers.

Ultimately, the EU is developing a new programme focusing on Education for a value of EUR 17M. The EU-Ghana Pact for Skills that would start in 2023. This will be completed by regional programmes in the education sector under preparation.
