The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organizations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy. 

The EU Delegation to the Guatemala works in close coordination with the Embassies and Consulates of the 27 EU Member States. We are a fully-fledged diplomatic mission and represent the European Union in dealings with the Guatemalan government in areas that are part of the EU’s remit.

We offer

The post of Press and Information Officer (Local Agent - Group I) in the Political, Press and Information Section. The team consists of 3 people and there are occasional atypical working hours.

Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed to functions depending on the needs of the Delegation, and on the changes of these needs. The successful candidate will serve under the supervision and responsibility of the Deputy Head of Mission/Head of the Political, Press and Information Section, providing support, expertise and assistance in promoting the visibility of the European Union in Guatemala, including through social media, analysinglocal media and political developments relevant to the European Union, in close collaboration with other sections of the Delegation. S/he also organizes events to support the Delegation’s activities.

Following main tasks and duties are currently required:  

• Monitor, analyse and report on developments in Guatemala.

• Organise the Ambassador’s media activities (i.a. interviews, press briefings, press conferences).

• Coordinate the Delegation’s communication/public diplomacy policy, in close collaboration with the Cooperation section of the EU Delegation (“one-Delegation-approach”).

• Create strategic communications content and public relations campaigns.

• Organisation and graphic design of communication material.

• Draft speeches, statements, articles and presentations.

• Manage updates to the Delegation’s website.

• Manage the Delegation’s social media accounts (X, Instagram, FB, LinkedIn).

• Plan and organise public diplomacy events and high-level visits.

• Manage public relations (mass media, communicators, influencers, government, cultural sector, academic, political and civil society).

• Coordinate replies to media requests.

• Accompany internal or external meetings to follow up on issues related to communication, visibility, public diplomacy.

• Manage the Press & Information budget.

• Initiate procurement of Press, Information and Public Diplomacy goods and services.

• Prepare annual reporting on communication and information activities.

• Back-up of the Political Officer.

• Any other task that may be assigned.

Minimum requirements / eligibility criteria

• Bachelor’s degree completed and attested by a diploma, preferably in one of the following disciplines: Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Political Science or International Relations.

• A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in the field of press and information or communication/public diplomacy, duly supported by employment certificates or reference letters from employers.

• Excellent command (spoken and written) of Spanish (C2) and English (C1).

• Guatemalan nationals or candidates with residence in Guatemala and a valid work permit.

• Computer skills, particularly Windows and MS Office, drafting for web and social media.

Assets / selection criteria

• A master’s degree in one of the above-mentioned areas.

• Work in an Embassy or an international organization.

• Any other EU language, particularly French or German.
