Ambassador, Rene van Nes, on October 19, 2022 presented his credentials to Suriname’s President, Chandrikapersad Santokhi and has been accredited as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the European Union in Suriname. During the ceremony at Suriname’s Presidential Palace, Ambassador Van Nes remarked that, ‘’the European Union and Suriname are partners - have always been and will always be.’’ He further stated that, ‘’the EU recognises Suriname as a like-minded ally on the international stage with shared interests and objectives.’’ Ambassador Van Nes, who previously worked for the EU in Suriname shared his delight at returning to serve after some 30 years.
