College students share their opinions with EU ambassador to Honduras

Three young Honduran students were the winners of an op-ed contest organized by the European Union (EU) Delegation in Honduras. The contest sought to encourage critical thinking and writing skills among university students in the country. The contest had three categories: Cooperation, Trade, and Political Dialogue, focusing on different aspects of the relationship between the EU and Honduras.

In the category of Cooperation, the first place went to Carlos Urrutia, a journalism student at the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH), who reflected on the future of international cooperation and its impact on sustainable development. In the category of Trade, the winner was José Cálix, an International Relations student at the Catholic University of Honduras, who analyzed the evolution of trade links between Honduras and Europe. Finally, in the category of Political Dialogue, first place went to Andrea Rubio, an International Relations student at the Central American Technological University (UNITEC). She addressed bilateral dialogue as an essential bridge between the European Union and Honduras, highlighting the importance of political cooperation.

As part of the award ceremony, the winners met with the European Union ambassador to Honduras, Gonzalo Fournier, where they shared their ideas and reflections on the role of the EU in the country and the global challenges facing the international community. The EU delegation highlighted the high standard of the op-eds and stressed the importance of promoting spaces where young people can express their perspectives on international relations and the future of Honduras in the global context.
