EU and MS in Honduras award the Europe Human Rights Prize to the organization “Centro de Derechos de Mujeres”

The prize was awarded in recognition and support of the work and contribution that the organisation has made for more than 30 years in favour of the recognition and exercise of women's human rights in Honduras.

The European Union and its Member States present in Honduras (Spain, Germany and France) awarded the "Europe Human Rights Prize in Honduras" to the Centro de Derechos de Mujeres-CDM-. The prize was awarded in recognition and support of the work and contribution that the organisation has made for more than 30 years in favour of the recognition and exercise of women's human rights in Honduras.

"For CDM, this award is a recognition and appreciation of the work and commitment it has maintained throughout its life to make women's human rights a reality in Honduras; for women to strengthen their awareness as human beings with equal rights, to break the silence, to claim and demand full guarantee of their rights. This award values the struggles that Honduran women have been fighting for years to change power relations and to exercise their rights. CDM is inspired by the struggle of our ancestors and many women throughout the country who resist and confront the multiple oppressions and are an example of dignity", said Gilda Rivera, coordinator of CDM.

This is the third consecutive year that the EU and its MS in Honduras publicly recognise, with the Prize, the work of individuals or organisations in Honduras in favour of human rights.

“This year we have awarded the prize to CDM, an organisation with a long history of work in favour of women's rights. They carry out a wide range of initiatives for the benefit of women, ranging from political participation and economic empowerment, to reproductive and sexual health rights, and the development of legal frameworks for a life free of violence”, said HoD, Jaume Segura.
