The European Union Delegation to Iceland is looking for an Accounts clerk

We are

The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.

The main tasks of the EU Delegation to Iceland are to represent the Union in the country; to foster political and economic relations between the EU and Iceland, and to inform the general public and other specific audiences about various EU related matters. We do so in close coordination with the Embassies of the EU Member States.

 

We offer

We offer a post of Accounts clerk . Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation. Upon recruitment, the successful candidate will occupy a specific job function as Accounts clerk – this job function may be changed in accordance with the needs of the Delegation. Under this job function the successful candidate will serve as technical and support staff to help ensure the smooth administrative running of the Delegation, under the supervision and responsibility of the Head of Administration. The responsibilities of the job holder will include, but not be limited to, assistance with financial/budgetary management; public procurement; management of infrastructure and assets; logistics support; and various other administrative tasks in support of the Delegation’s activities.

The EU Delegation is located in central Reykjavik (Tryggvagata). The post is full-time and carried out from the office premises. The successful candidate will be recruited as a local agent (function group 3). The basic salary ranges from to 504,981 to 686,133 ISK per month and will be determined based on the length of the candidate’s work experience. 

 

Selection Criteria

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Medically fit to perform the required duties;
  2. Enjoys civil rights and permits for employment under local law;
  3. Proven experience of min. 1-3 years in an administrative role.
  4. Very good knowledge of English, orally and in writing;
  5. Good knowledge of Icelandic, orally and in writing.
  6. Upper secondary education or equivalent

The following will be considered an asset:

  1. Proven experience in an accounting role
  2. Work experience in a diplomatic mission or international organisation.
  3. Experience in an international/multinational environment.

The procedure

After the deadline for applications, the applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee set up for this purpose. The Selection Committee will prepare a short-list of candidates who are considered to be the most suitable for the post on the basis of a preliminary assessment of the information provided in their application letter and the supporting documents. The short-listed candidates will be invited to an assessment phase which will include an interview. The Selection Committee reserves the right to also test the candidates’ written / practical skills. During this assessment phase, the Selection Committee will assess the suitability of the candidates for the post.

The candidates who have not been short-listed will not be contacted individually; however, the Delegation will use the same means of publication as for this Vacancy Notice to inform the remaining candidates once the recruitment procedure has been completed and that a candidate has (or has not) been recruited.
