Arctic Circle Assembly 2023

The annual Arctic Circle Assembly 2023 took place in Reykjavík between 19 - 21 October 2023. The European Union was represented by EU Special Envoy for Arctic Matters, Ms Clara Ganslandt, representatives from EU's Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE), and the EU Delegation to Iceland.

 

The Arctic Circle Assembly 2023 took place between 19 - 21 October in Reykjavík and, as usual, the European Union actively participated in the Assembly. The EU was represented at the Assembly by the EU Special Envoy for Arctic Matters, Ms Clara Ganslandt, who was accompanied by the EU Ambassador to Iceland, Lucie Samcová-Hall Allen, and representatives from DG MARE, Mr Miguel Roncero and Mr Vassilis Dokalis.

During the Assembly, the EU organised panel discussions about the needs and concerns of Arctic youth, gender equality and LGBTQI+ rights, and the importance of EU policies and funding in the Arctic region.

Representatives of the EU also took part in important roundtable discussions covering everything from environmental and marine protection to security and defence issues.

This year, over 2,000 people attended the Assembly, making it one of the most important and well attended conferences on Arctic matters in the world.
