Hundreds of Guests Show Solidarity with Ukraine: Re-premiere of "Temporary Shelter"

On Monday 24th of February, the documentary Temporary Shelter was re-premiered at Bíó Paradís in light of the three year anniversary of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

 

Many people attended the event at Bíó Paradís to see the documentary Temporary Shelter directed by Anastasiia Bortuali. The event started with a musical performance by Ukrainian sisters. Afterwards, the guests were addressed by Logi Einarsson - Minister of Education, Culture, and Higher Education, Þórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörð Gylfadóttir - CoE Special Envoy for the Children of Ukraine, and Aleksander Kropiwnicki – Ambassador of Poland.

The documentary gives the audience a glimpse into the experience of several Ukrainians who sought refuge in Iceland after the war broke out in February 2022. The film gives an insight into their first months on Iceland and the community at Ásbrú where Anastasiia stayed herself. She said that the movie was created out of journal-entries in the form of videos that she started to record after arriving to Iceland. Later on, she received a grant to produce the documentary based on the videos.

After the screening, the EU delegation to Iceland served the guests drinks. The event was hosted in collaboration with the Embassy of Poland.
