A Seminar on Simplification of European Regulation

The seminar was held at the Reykjavik University where experts gathered to discuss streamlining the regulatory framework and reducing administrative burdens within the EEA.

On 10 February at Reykjavik University, we partnered with the Icelandic Federation of Trade and a group of national experts to discuss the simplification of European regulation. With new European Commission initiatives taking centre stage, the conversation focused on transforming the regulatory framework into a tool that supports, rather than hinders, companies operating within the EEA.

We were honored to have Iceland’s Foreign Minister, Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir, open the event by highlighting the need for a more streamlined and cohesive regulatory environment. This was followed by a keynote from Michael Wimmer (European Commission), who outlined a roadmap to reduce administrative burdens for SMEs by 35% by 2029. Panellists from ESA, Reykjavik University, and the private sector further explored how to ensure these reforms reach Icelandic businesses swiftly and predictably.

Many thanks to our co-hosts—the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, ESA, the Icelandic Federation of Trade, and the University of Reykjavik. Over 130 participants joined us in person and online.
