Visit to FAB LAB Reykjavík

On Tuesday 30.05.2023, Ambassador of the EU to Iceland, Ms Lucie Samcová-Hall Allen, visited FAB LAB Reykjavík to learn more about FAB LAB Reykjavík's collaborative projects, EU funding to FAB LAB Reykjavík's initiatives and projects, and its goals to foster innovation, product development and new ideas at all levels of society.

On Tuesday 30th of May 2023, Ambassador of the EU to Iceland, Ms Lucie Samcová-Hall Allen, visited FAB LAB Reykjavík and met with Ms Þóra Óskarsdóttir, the Director of FAB LAB Reykjavík, Ms Bryndís Steina Friðgeirsdóttir, specialist, and the Technical Representatives, Mr Arnar Daði Þórisson, Ms Hafey Viktoría Hallgrímsdóttir, Mr Andri Sæmundsson, and Mr Magnús Pétursson.

During the visit, Ms Óskarsdóttir and her team gave the Ambassador a tour around the workshop and gave the Ambassador insight into the many interesting collaborative projects and initiatives at Fab Lab Reykjavík, and discussed EU's Erasmus+ funding to some of the workshop's projects, such as the Cocoon Project, and to the FABLABs - new technologies partnership project. Furthermore, Ms Óskarsdóttir and her team discussed Fab Lab Reykjavík's goals to foster innovation, product development, and to promote new ideas at all levels of society.

FAB LAB Reykjavík - a part of Fab Lab Iceland - was opened on January 24, 2014 and is located in Fjölbrautarskólinn in Breiðholt Community College. Since then, Fab Lab Reykjavík has become the creative centre of Breiðholt, attracting more than 8,000 curious and solution-oriented people per year.

Fun fact: the prototype for SideWind, an Icelandic maritime innovation in wind energy harvesting, was created at Fab Lab Reykjavík. The European Union granted € 9.2 m to the large maritime solar and wind project "WHISPER" which mainly relies on SideWind's technology.

The European Union actively supports the Fab Lab network and it's many initiatives and projects across Europe through the Erasmus+ programme - the EU's programme to support education, training, youth and sport in Europe.
