Call for Entries. A Journey to Europe: Scriptwriting Development

A Journey to Europe is aimed at professional screenwriters from India, between the ages of 18 to 35 years who are interested in receiving training aimed at developing their scripts towards a feature-length fiction film. The call forms part of the 26th European Union Film Festival India which is scheduled to take place from 1-30 November 2021.

  1. WHAT’S A JOURNEY TO EUROPE

A JOURNEY TO EUROPE is a cultural exchange project, promoted by the Delegation of the European Union to India in the context of the European Union Film Festival (https://euffindia.com/). It aims to select, support and enhance young talent from India, with a view to increasing intercultural dialogue between the European Union and India, thanks to training activities for the development of high quality scripts. It will form part of the 26th edition of the European Union Film Festival in India, scheduled to take place in November 2021.

  1. RECIPIENTS

A JOURNEY TO EUROPE is aimed at professional screenwriters from India (Indian nationals), between the ages of 18 to 35 years, who are interested in an experience of cultural exchange and training aimed at developing their project of a feature-length fiction film.

  1. ARTICULATION

1. FIRST STEP Selection of a maximum of 30 projects that will have access to an intensive script development session over five days in November 2021. The condition to be selected is to have realised at least one short or one long feature film or documentary. The training is free of charge;

2. SECOND STEP Among these 30 projects, two participants will receive additional follow-up and script doctoring support for eight months which will end in a journey in 2022 to a European film festival where the project will be presented to professionals, if travel restrictions resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic have been lifted. Scripts should resonate with people in both the EU and India, highlighting common hopes and aspirations; social inclusion and mutual solidarity; fundamental freedoms and equality; environmental sustainability and climate change mitigation.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

A. Signed Application and Consent Form including authorisation to process personal data (pdf format);

B. Project Documentation (pdf format):

  • Logline (max 60 words);
  • Synopsis (max 500 words);
  • Treatment (8 to 12 pages) or script (if available).

C. Biography and Filmography (1 to 2 pages) (pdf format);

D. Copy of a valid identification document (pdf or jpeg format);

5. DEADLINE

Applications for participation must be sent by email to euffindia@cineuropa.orgno later than 30 September, 2021.

6. CALL ACCEPTANCE

The Call and Regulation rules are automatically accepted by the participants of A JOURNEY TO EUROPE upon their signature of this document.

You give the Delegation of the European Union to India the rights for the submitted scripts and the personal data provided in this Application Form for the exclusive purpose of evaluation by the selection committee, participation in the five days scriptwriting module for the twenty participants selected and, for those winning the competition, the eight months follow-up and the subsequent participation on the festival. Submitted scripts will not be made public by the Delegation, although the contest itself will be publicized on the Delegation’s website and social media channels. The Delegation will publish the names of the winners and the themes covered by the two winning scriptwriters on its website and social media channels. You warrant that you are the sole author of this script and you have the consent of individuals recognizable in your script.

You also give your consent that if your script is selected, we share its themes and publish your name on the 2022 European Union Film Festival and in EU communication activities, including through the EEAS or EU Delegation social media channels and website.

To assist us in promoting EU values, you have the option by ticking the relevant box below to give your consent for us to use of your data to provide you with further information about the EU.

You can find further information on how your data is processed if you give consent to include your data in an EEAS contact list - in the EEAS Privacy Statements on Contact lists and on Public Diplomacy Initiatives by the EEAS. Not giving this consent does not in any way influence your participation in the “Journey to Europe competition”.
