You are a city of at least 50.000 inhabitants, member or become a member of the Global Covenant of Mayors, and want
to revise your existing climate and energy action plans and prioritising actions to reach net-zero, apply now to get
support to accelerate clean urban solutions by joining the second cohort of Urban Transitions Mission City (UTM).
The UTM is looking for 250 other pioneering cities to join by 2024!

Interested cities can apply online and express their interest to join the Mission’s cohort by 21 August.

Expressions of interest, submitted via an online form, will be evaluated against a number of key principles, including:
ambition in climate target setting, readiness of the city’s climate action strategy, existing knowledge and solutions to be
shared with peers, planned crosssector solutions and measures, readiness to test innovation, track-record of stakeholder
engagement and international cooperation

Background
The Mission Innovation’s Urban Transitions Mission (UTM) has been launched in the framework of Mission
Innovation (MI), launched at COP25. MI is a global initiative of 23 countries and the European Commission (on behalf
of the European Union) catalysing a decade of action and investment in research, development and demonstration aiming
at speeding up the clean tech transition by making clean energy affordable, attractive and accessible for all.
The Urban Transitions Mission (UTM) was launched at COP26 under the framework of Mission Innovation (MI). It is
a joint effort by the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and energy, the European Commission, and Joint
Programming Initiative Urban Europe. The Mission will mobilise decision makers across all levels of government to
prioritise climate-neutral and net-zero pathways enabled by clean energy and systemic innovation across all sectors and
in urban governance. The Mission will empower cities to adopt innovative solutions and help reach tipping points in the
cost and scale of those solutions for urban transitions, offering an urban net-zero transition framework that builds on the
knowledge and expertise of a Global Innovation Alliance of supporting partners and organizations together with the
first-hand experience of cities.
The first 50 cities are already on board, of which six from India (Ahmedabad, Kochi, Mumbai, Panaji, Patna, and Surat).
