The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.

We offer

We offer a post of Project Manager  – External Relations (Development/Economic Advisor). Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation. Upon recruitment, the successful candidate will occupy a specific job function as Project Manager – this job function may be changed in accordance with the needs of the Delegation. Under the overall coordination of the Head of Cooperation and the direct supervision of the Team Leader, under this job function the successful candidate will assist in coordinating, monitoring and reporting the implementation of EU external development cooperation initiatives in India and Bhutan. The jobholder will focus in particular on EU efforts toward sustainable growth and jobs, on economic development, sector analysis, Public Finance Management (PFM), macroeconomic, governance and accountability aspects, blending initiatives, social impact bonds and innovative financing, including the use of impact assessment tools both in India and Bhutan, among others.  Please see the Job Description(

We offer a competitive position in an international environment in the Cooperation (COOP) section with the Delegation of the European Union in India with their office at 5/5 Shanti Niketan, New Delhi 110021. The candidate will be placed in Group 1 and the starting basic salary will be INR 185,051.00.  The salary will be set according the existing salary grid applicable for the level of the post inside the organisation, taking into account the chosen candidate's proven relevant work experience in the field.

Benefits, such as additional pension scheme and medical insurance, are offered to employees and their families under certain conditions.

Working hours are from 09:00 to 17:30.

Selection Criteria

Minimum Requirements:

  1. University Degree (Master’s) in Economic and Social Sciences or Political economy, Political science
  2. 10 years of relevant working experience
  3. Enjoys civil rights and permits for employment under local law;
  4. Has an excellent knowledge of English and Hindi [add working language of Delegation];
  5. Fluent oral and written communication and computer skills;
  6. Medically fit to perform the required duties;

The following will be considered an asset:

  1. Working experience in an Embassy or international organisation environment
  2. Experience and Technical knowledge
  3.  Knowledge of French or one European language

The procedure

After the deadline for applications, the applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee set up for this purpose. The Selection Committee will prepare a short-list of candidates who are considered to be the most suitable for the post on the basis of a preliminary assessment of the information provided in their application letter and the supporting documents. The short-listed candidates will be invited to an assessment phase which may include an interview if necessary – during this phase, the Selection Committee will assess the suitability of the candidates for the post.

The candidates who have not been short-listed will not be contacted individually; however, the Delegation will use the same means of publication as for this Vacancy Notice to inform the remaining candidates once the recruitment procedure has been completed and that a candidate has (or has not) been recruited.
