Summary:

The overall objective is the conservation of the Coral Triangle's biologically diverse marine ecosystems and important fisheries through improved management of commercially and ecologically important fisheries (particularly small-scale fisheries), and the creation and improvement of marine and coastal protected areas (MPAs); with selected fisheries and MPAs enhanced by the creation of long-term financing arrangements.

This project works with local communities in the North Maluku and North Sulawesi provinces of Indonesia who rely on marine resources for their livelihoods and general well-being. It includes approximately 12,300 fishers in North Maluku, supported through enhanced fisheries management and 82,300 livelihoods in both North Maluku and North Sulawesi. Target groups also include the Indonesian Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, managers of selected marine sites in the Philippines, and at the regional level, the Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries and Food Security (CTI-CFF).
