Funding Opportunity to support peace and resilience in the borderlands of the Horn of Africa: EU launches new Call for Proposals - Ref 176874

Borderlands in Sub-Saharan Africa are often associated with conflict, violence and marginalisation. In addition, violent extremism is seen as an increasing threat in some regions. At the same time, livelihood systems and population movements tend to span beyond international borders. The European Union has been active in select border areas of the Horn of Africa since 2017 through the programme ‘Collaboration in Cross-Border Areas of the Horn of Africa’.

As a follow-up, the European Union has now launched a new call for proposals to support these areas with a total funding envelope of EUR 34 million. The application processes is divided into two steps, concepts notes and full applications. The deadline to submit concepts notes is 2 May at 12 noon Brussels time.

The global objective of this call for proposals is to enhance effectiveness of conflict prevention and mitigation, disaster risk reduction and management, and resilience-building in cross-border communities in select border areas in the Horn of Africa.

The specific objectives of this call for proposals are:

- Enhanced capacities of formal and informal cross-border stakeholders in conflict prevention and management and social cohesion building, with particular focus on women (and youth).

- Enhanced access to income generating opportunities and shared natural resources for borderlands community members.
