EU Delegation to the Kyrgyz Republic welcomes a new Head of Office, Ambassador Marilyn Josefson
Bishkek, 6 September 2022 – Yesterday, H.E Marilyn Josefson, new Ambassador of the EU Delegation to the Kyrgyz Republic since September 1, presented a copy of her letter of credentials to H.E Mr Jeenbek Kulubaev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic. Thus officially commencing her duty in the Kyrgyz Republic.
The short ceremony took place on the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic. H.E Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev welcomed Ambassador Marilyn Josefson and wished her success in her activities for the benefit of further development of bilateral relations between the Kyrgyz Republic and the European Union.
Ambassador Marilyn Josefson in turn thanked Minister Kulubaev for the warm welcome and stressed her strong commitment to further strengthening mutual relations between the Kyrgyz Republic and the European Union. Both in terms of bilateral - and regional political dialogue in areas like security and border management cooperation; as well as within new areas of development cooperation such as, trade - and private sector development, digitalisation, green economic transition and water - and energy cooperation. She also emphasised the EU’s prioritised “Team Europe” approach of working in close concerted action with EU Member States and the broader set of EU-institutions such as European Investment Bank (EIB) and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development EBRD.
Given the extensive EU-Kyrgyzstan agenda in the coming months, both sides took stock of upcoming bilateral and regional visits and events, including the EU-Kyrgyzstan Human Rights Dialogue that will take place back to back with a Brussels led GSP+ mission and the EU-Central Asia Connectivity Conference in Samarkand in November.
Ambassador Marilyn Josefson is a Swedish diplomat and recently served as Ambassador/ Head of Delegation of the European Union in Tajikistan as well as worked for the European External Action Service in Brussels. She has previously served at the embassies in the Netherlands, Ethiopia and Zambia; as well as worked for the United Nations in Ukraine and for MSF (Médecins sans frontiers) in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Ambassador Marilyn Josefson is fluent in Swedish, English, and French, and speaks some Portuguese, Spanish and Russian.
