EU support to water infrastructure in Kyrgyzstan

24.09.2020

Since 2011, the EU has been supporting investments to ensure that safe drinking water supply, including sanitation and wastewater services are available across Kyrgyzstan.

So far the EU has granted over 50 Million Euros to address urgently needed infrastructure and rehabilitation needs in the water sector, through the Investment Facility for Central Asia (IFCA).

In cooperation with EBRD and EIB, these investments aim to:

  • Provide the population with an economically sustainable, affordable service for safe and high quality drinking water and sanitation;
  • Upgrade operations and maintenance equipment, together with the provision of wastewater services;

Establish proper institutional and operational reforms for effective and rational use of water resources meant to reduce water-borne diseases and increase access to water.
