7th EU-Lao PDR Inter-Parliamentary Meeting in Vientiane and Luang Prabang

From the 25th to 27th May, three members of the European Parliament's Delegation for relations with the countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (DASE) visited Lao PDR. The delegation was headed by the Chair of DASE, Mr Wouter BEKE (European Peoples Party - EPP, Belgium).

The European Parliament, represented by a delegation of DASE Members, and delegates from the National Assembly of Lao PDR, held the 7th Inter-Parliamentary Meeting on 25 May 2026. The previous Inter-Parliamentary meeting was held in November 2017, also in Vientiane, Lao PDR.

The 7th Inter-Parliamentary Meeting addressed important topics such as bilateral EU-Lao PDR relations, regional stability, geopolitical developments, ASEAN integration and the EU's Indo-Pacific strategy. Also trade and investment, climate change, human rights and security issues were discussed, including cybercrime and human trafficking in Southeast Asian countries.
