EU and Laos Strengthen Ties Through Sustainable Tourism Dialogue in Luang Prabang
The European Union Delegation to Lao PDR, together with the European Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Laos, organised the EU–Laos Business Talk & Networking event in Luang Prabang to celebrate 50th anniversary of Lao PDR – EU relations.
The event was co-chaired by Mr. Mark Gallagher, EU Ambassador to Lao PDR, and Mr. Bounleua Sinxayvoravong, Vice Governor of Luang Prabang Province, and brought together government officials, European and Lao business leaders, tourism experts, and development partners for a dynamic panel discussion on opportunities and challenges in the tourism and hospitality sector.
Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its fusion of natural beauty and spiritual heritage, served as the backdrop for discussions focused on attracting sustainable investment, improving service quality, and positioning the city as a leading tourism destination, all while preserving its unique cultural and environmental identity.
Speakers highlighted the importance of sustainable and inclusive tourism as a key driver of green growth, job creation, and cultural preservation. The European Union reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Laos in developing a resilient tourism industry through initiatives that promote eco-friendly business practices, responsible investment, and skills development. These efforts reflect the EU’s broader cooperation with Laos in advancing sustainable development and strengthening people-to-people ties.
Following the discussion, participants took part in a networking session to share experiences, explore business opportunities, and strengthen partnerships between European and Lao businesses.
The event underscored the enduring friendship and cooperation between the EU and Laos, as both partners look ahead to a greener, more sustainable, and people-centered future.
