27th European Film Festival closes with Short Film Competition Awards Ceremony
The 27th edition of the European Film Festival in Lebanon marked its Closing Night on Wednesday 16 November 2022 at Cinema Montaigne with the Short Film Competition Awards Ceremony. H.E. the Ambassador of the European Delegation to Lebanon Ralph Tarraf awarded the Best Short Film Prize equally to three short films selected by an international jury:
H.E.R.A directed by Alaa Fleifel wins the Award by Goethe-Institut Libanon, for succeeding in tackling a universal topic in an untraditional narrative, and in a well-executed animation, editing and sound design.
A Broken Fan directed by Assaad Khoueiry wins the Award by Poland, for depicting an engaging story tackling a social issue in a simple and consistent narrative.
Black Mouse directed by Ahmad Naboulsi wins the Institut français du Liban Award. The jury praised the director for offering a visually striking experience that allows the viewer to explore one of Lebanon’s main cities, Tripoli, and particularly the positioning of its landmark Oscar Niemeyer's International Fair, in a never-before seen way on film.
The Special Jury Mention is given to Our Beautiful Eyes directed by Fatima Joumaa.
The jury was composed of: Mrs. Vesna Chamoun (Cultural Program Coordinator at Goethe-Institut Libanon), Ms. Leilah Gruas (Chargée de mission audiovisuel at Institut français du Liban), Ms. Renée Awit (Project Manager of Aflamuna and Film Editor), Hassan Sahili (Journalist) and Mr. Hrag Toumayan from the Metropolis Cinema Association.
The European Union through the awards supports the talent of emerging filmmakers from Lebanon. This year's winners will have the opportunity to attend an international film festival in Germany in partnership with the Goethe-Institut Libanon, an international festival and coproduction platform in France thanks to l'Institut français du Liban and a study visit on the occasion of a film festival in Poland through support by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Lebanon.
