The aim of this project is to provide better access to higher education opportunities for refugees from Syria as well as young people in Lebanon and improve prospects for young Syrians, and contribute to the preparation of the post-crisis reconstruction of Syria.

  • Budget: €12,000,000 (€3 million for Lebanon)
  • Location: Lebanon, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan and Turkey
  • Date of project: April 16 - August 2020
  • Implementing Partner: German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the British Council, Campus France and Nuffic

Millions have fled Syria seeking refuge in neighbouring countries since 2011. This has affected the higher education systems in host countries including Lebanon. Given Lebanon’s limited capacity to deal with the large number of youths who have sought refuge in the country, only a small fraction of vulnerable young refugees are currently enrolled in a university programme. Moreover, Lebanon’s education system makes it difficult for young Lebanese citizens to access higher education because of several considerations including the high cost of education or transportation to reach universities, language barriers and more.
