The Delegation of the European Union and the Embassies of the EU Member States issue the following statement on the implementation of the electoral process

We welcome SRSG Bathily’s announcement, in line with UNSC Resolution 2702 (2023), informing that he extended an invitation to Libyan stakeholders to attend a meeting to reach a settlement on the politically contested issues for the implementation of the electoral process, and his request to designate representatives to participate in a preparatory meeting.

We strongly encourage the Libyan stakeholders to heed the popular call to put the national interest first and renew the legitimacy of the institutions by accepting the SRSG’s invitation and engaging constructively in a spirit of compromise to reach a political agreement paving the way for national elections.
